Reflecting: Amplify Podcast School 2024

This spring, Amplify was thrilled to be able to host our first Amplify Podcast School, a week-long educational intensive for emerging scholars interested in learning how to podcast their academic work. Participants from across Canada joined us at Simon Fraser University’s Burnaby Campus to learn from faculty and industry professionals. Two of Amplify’s co-directors, Hannah McGregor and Stacey Copeland, along with other faculty including Milena Droumeva, Helen Zaltzman, Martin Austwick, Vinita Srivastava and Dannielle Piper, walked our participants through a range of workshops, including topics spanning from how to work in the field of podcasting as a marginalized scholar, to the nuts and bolts of interview skills.

As Amplify's mission is to reimagine the sound of scholarship, we were motivated to offer this week-long intensive for emerging scholars to share the knowledge that our faculty has gained over their many years working in the industry and in the academy.

As part of the week, Iron Dog Books hosted a live recording of Don't Call Me Resilient, a podcast from The Conversation Canada, with host Vinita Srivastava interviewing SFU Associate Professor Karrmen Crey about her newly published book: Producing Sovereignty: The Rise of Indigenous Media in Canada.
